All, if not most, sectors of society have been adversely affected by the pandemic restrictions. Churches are not exempt and have been closed for four months despite the concession of limited attendees.
From an Ecclesiastical perspective it’s not appropriate to turn anyone away from the front door of the church.
The Herald’s report on Monday 27 July 2020 relates to one of the larger churches in the city, Word of Faith Centre, it underscores how widespread the Covid-19 laws have been.
One fully understands that mass gatherings in enclosed areas are a high risk and therefore prohibited. Drive-In church services are safe and innovative that need to be encouraged.
The faithful seek to honour the Bible’s instruction “Not to neglect the assembly and fellowship of believers”.
Pastor Jimmy Crompton’s enraged outburst is justifiable because the restrictions on Drive-In services are irrational and inconsistent. Like all sectors the church faces financial challenges.
I empathise and concur with the veteran preacher that it seems to be a global agenda to minimise and side-line Christianity’s influence in the world.
This is not because of the draconian measures imposed on the church and society at large but is a pre-Covid agenda to neutralise the Christian message that is opposed to a humanistic world view.
However, I do not think it prudent for any church to revert to legal action against the state authorities.
This is not consistent with sound Biblical teaching. Prayer and a Godly response is required of church leaders as we see the day of the Lord approaching.
We are in the world, but we are not of the world, therefore it should come as no surprise when the world is at enmity with the church.
Our weapons are not the same as that of the world. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against metaphysical forces that oppose God’s Divine plan for man.
Persecution of God’s people is a reality we must endure. We are out of step with global trends to establish a new humanity.
It is evident that Christians are perceived as narrow minded, uncaring bigots that the world would be better if silenced.
Let ’s not flinch in the face of hostile attacks. As the days grow darker our light and witness should shine brighter.
Perhaps Covid-19 is the harbinger before the storm, we stand at the cusp of a new world order.
Is the economic crisis accentuated by Covid-19 a precursor to a new normal that will change the world that we once knew?
We were born for such a time and we need to man up and accept that trials and tribulations will come and that the church is the target of these sinister objectives. We do live in interesting times.
