Who Owns the Land

Who owns the land?  Is a question that has evoked irrational responses and much uncertainty.  We all who know that a family from India almost captured the state and its resources.  The land issue is not new.  The history of our beloved country tells of the scourge of war and the misery that such conflict inflicted on our people.  The Anglo-Boer War was waged because of land.  The Kaffarian Wars were fought over land.  The Battle of Blood River was the result of deceit over land occupation.  Who does the land belong to?  The Bible says the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world all who live in it – Psalm 24:1.   We are only custodians of the property we possess, when we leave earth all of what we own will be left behind.  How foolish we humans are to fret and worry over property and possessions that are meaningless in the next world.

As Politicians, drunk on power and possessions squabble and give vent to their ambitions, God the Sovereign Ruler, surely laughs at such foolishness.  As Christians we should know our destiny.  We are citizens of Heaven.  The things of the earth will pass away, but eternity awaits those who love Him, love not the world and the things therein.  They are temporal and will vanish away.  Set your affection on eternal values, they will last forever.  This does not mean that we should be negligent and irresponsible.  We are compelled to be good stewards and wise custodians of the limited possessions and property committed to our care.

The lesson I glean from all the events is that too many people are obsessed with that all I am belongs to Him and I’m a fool to worry about that which I don’t own and never owned in the first place.  So the final analysis is that all things were made by Him for Him and therefore, all things are His.
