Weekend Post

Dear Madam

The times in which we live demand vigilance and discernment.  The silence of our city’s clergy on crucial issues raised by Peter Wood’s in his column, “That’s the spirit”, is both alarming and timid.  While he has every right to express his personal experience and beliefs it would be irresponsible and cowardice to remain mute when faced with such erroneous deductions on matters of faith.  A case in point is his article, Weekend Post 27/07/2019 “Religion often ignores the subject of sexuality”.  Wood’s copiously quotes from new age mystic, ex-Dominican Catholic priest, Matthew Fox’s 1988 book “The coming cosmic Christ:  The healing of mother earth and the birth of a global Renaissance.”  Peter’s obsessive preoccupation with finding his inner self or Buddha nature has left some readers fascinated and enthralled, however the more informed observer may be horrified by his naivety and benightedness.  It’s like watching a child play with a venomous asp oblivious of the danger.  I am afraid that Woods’ overexposure to esoteric mysticism has immuned him to linear reasoning and objective thought.  Is he passing through the “dark night of the soul”?  Is it too late to awaken him to his true potential and life changing purpose?  The travesty is that young impressionable minds hungry for knowledge will rush in where angels fear to tread.

Wood’s regurgitates the flawed concepts of his newly discovered neo-pagan guru Matthew Fox, whose gobbledegook on sexuality can be traced back to the ancient mystic sex cults.  As for his genderless deity the sacred Scriptures record that the Divine Creator chose to reveal Himself as Father of all creation.

With the rise of pseudo-intellectuals, quasi-prophets and google-experts, superficial knowledge now parades itself as authentic truth.  There are several predictions relating to the demise of humanism and the regression of society before Divine intervention and judgement occurs.  The subject of Eschatology (a study of predicted events) falls within my purview and in terms of this topic the Sacred Scriptures declare that man’s resistance and mutiny against the Divine will lead to God sending a strong delusion that people who supress the revealed Truth will believe the Lie.  It goes on to say that some will turn away from the Christian faith and introduce doctrines of devils.  Current trends of the renewal of nationalism and tribalism is the final precursor to a more sinister global agenda and the coming of a new world order with the cosmic Christ claiming to be the Divine and thereby deceiving the world’s population.  Ironically, thanks to Peter Woods’ reference to the cosmic Christ I am able to communicate an alternative perspective on matters that some may consider to be mere conspiratorial, far-fetched jargon.  We ignore, at our own peril, the Truth so clearly unveiled in the Book we call the Bible.

Furthermore, in terms of sexual identity, Peter imprudently echoes the sentiments of Fox who dishonestly twists a verse in the Bible.  Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus,” to imply that the verse means that there is no longer masculine and feminine nouns and that this justifies the sexual revolution of our age.  It is clear for most exegetical scholars that this text refers to being in Christ wherein there is no longer superiority of status, gender and race.  It amazes me that folk who attack the validity of the Bible cherry pick it’s content to suit their devious and spurious argument.

The old maxim “that nature abhors a vacuum” rings true when one considers the quest that Woods has embarked on.  By denying the revealed Truth he creates a spiritual vacuum and the consequence is obvious.  His insatiable thirst for self-discovery has driven him into the valley of metaphysics where the leviathan of deception resides.  God forbid that he takes the precious souls of our children into this god-forsaken abyss of lies.

Everyone is free to take what they want from life, but eventually they will have to pay for it and the price they pay maybe higher than the value they gain.
