Covid 19 Excerpt of Sermon

Excerpt of Sermon delivered by Dr Bruce Woolard
Sunday 1st August 2021

As in Noah’s day so it will be before Christ returns;

Matthew 24:37 “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

The last 18 months have not been dissimilar to Noah’s day. People have become calloused, hardened, cynical, blaze and fatalistic. Nothing shocks us anymore. We are unsensitised to life’s conditions and tragedies.

Life is uncertain. People suffer from COVID fatigue. The pandemic has changed peoples view of life and the future. Some complain of listlessness, some are frazzled, uncomfortable, trapped and depressed. Some are locked in the dungeon of despair – defeated. Natural affection and sympathy are non-existent.

Like in Noah’s day, people are self- opinionated, selfish, carnal and self-absorbed. Each man for himself, seems to be the prevailing mentality of far too many people. Our base human nature is being exposed. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord and so we are encouraged to discover God’s Grace toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

1. Noah was informed of the pending storm.
2. Noah prepared for the storm in a responsible and practical way.
3. Noah was not distracted by what others said or thought.
4. Noah sought God’s guidance.
5. Noah found strength in God’s promise.

God has made provision for us in Christ. the Lord is our modern ark of safety. Consider the five points above and ask yourself the following questions:

1. Are you an informed Believer as to the times in which we live?
2. Are you prepared for the coming storms facing humanity?
3. Are you being distracted by what others think and say about your position as a Faith Believer?
4. Are you in regular consultation with the Lord and His Word for guidance?
5. Are you being strengthened in your spirit by God’s promises?

Current trends of artificial intelligence (IT) and science’s effort to create a humanoid robot that will take on human-like characteristics is no different to Noah’s day. Genesis 6 records that a hybrid race emerged because of the unholy relationship of humans with spirits (fallen angels). The flood destroyed this hybrid race. We have become so reliant on technology that we allow our smart phones to think for us and inform us. We are fast becoming hybrid humans.

The terrestrial and the celestial entities are engaging in plans to exorcise God from the lives of people. We do live in dangerous times.

The COVID 19 pandemic presents us with a conundrum.

Some are in favour of the vaccine and others are sceptical of its purpose and ingredients. Some have listened to novices who regurgitate what they have learnt from Google, conspiracy theorists.
God is not the author of confusion – 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.”

If we require wisdom we should ask the Lord for discernment – James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

There is little doubt that there are forces at work who have dark motives. Who will use the pandemic to advance their global agenda of control over the masses. The recent riots and looting in Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng were not spontaneous civil reactions to the nation’s economic or political leadership crisis. It was well planned and fomented by sinister forces.

My take on the vaccination roll-out is that there is a health risk if we choose to take the vaccine or if we refuse to take the vaccine.

Banish from you mind the ignorant statement that the vaccine will change your DNA or that the vaccine is the “mark of the beast”.

This virus, be it man made or a natural jump from one animal species to a human species, is irrelevant. What is important is that we are faced with a real threat to our health. Each person is entitled to determine what is put into his/her body. Wisdom, discernment, coupled common sense should guide us.

Remember the oft told story of the devoted Christian who was swept out to sea. The drowning man prayed that God would rescue him. Within minutes a rescue boat arrived – he refused to accept their help. Later a rescue helicopter arrived – he again refused their rescue plan. The stubborn unwise man drowned. As he stood before God the Creator he complained that he had trusted God to save him, but had drowned. The Lord said, “My son, I sent the sea rescue boat and the helicopter but you refused help. You have come to heaven pre-maturely because you were stubborn, ignorant and ill informed.”

God promised to save Noah from the flood and provided a rescue vessel made with human hands to save Noah and his family.

The vaccine has been created by man in a short time because scientists have collaborated their efforts to save the population from the plague. By claiming to trust in God and not in the vaccine we are no different from the silly man in the narrative.

Which is the higher risk? Suffering the side-effects of the vaccine jab or contracting the brutal Delta variant that is spreading like wild fire from continent to continent. In a recent report it was stated that the unvaccinated create perfect conditions for new more aggressive variants to mutate.

Some say, “I trust God, not man.” What if God is using man to produce the antidote? Faith is not foolishness.

In order for us to defeat the virus we have to achieve 80% population immunity, that is 40 million of our citizens need to be inoculated. If population immunity is not achieved, we will have more fatalities and the virus will be with us for decades.

I implore you to be intelligent in your decision. It is your right to choose. Please choose wisely and responsibly.
